Q&A with Kirby…

Describe yourself in one word.

Determined.

If you could choose any colleague to be stranded on a deserted island with, who would it be and why?

Julia – because she can cook almost anything with any ingredient so I’d never starve.

What’s the most embarrassing song you know all the lyrics to?

I was obsessed with Guns ‘n’ Roses as a teenager so I’m pretty handy with Sweet Child O’Mine (a classic, surely!)

If you could invent one gadget to make your daily work better, what would it be?

A time machine!

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

Moved to Australia with a suitcase and nothing else (including common sense).

Which superpower do you wish you had and how would you use it at work?

Invisibility – I’d love to see what people really think of me when I’m not in the office.

What’s the most recent show you binge-watched and loved?

The Blacklist – James Spader played the part brilliantly. I’m onto the last series

How would you describe Boost using only three words?

Caring, encouraging, accessible

What’s your favourite thing about working at Boost?

The way we all work together and keep our clients front of mind in every decision we make (even if it means more work!)

What book, film, or tv programme has influenced your life the most?

Book – The Magic Of Thinking Big by David Schwartz. It helped me escape the narrow vision I had of myself and life.

Film – Pursuit of Happiness with Will Smith. As a father, it makes me cry every time I watch it because I appreciate how hard he tries to create a better life for his child. (I’ve seen him speak in real life and I cried then too… what a story!)

TV Programme – Dragons Den/Shark Tank because I love the ingenuity of humanity and the humility of placing your full faith in something even if others don’t agree with your vision.

If you had to pick a theme song to play every time you entered the office, what would it be?

That’s a tough one… something uplifting that reminded me to enjoy the moment.

Who in the office is most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse and why?

Ashleigh – she’d hide behind her giant scarves…

If our team was a band, what instrument would each member play?

Melanie and Louise would be guitar, Ash would be on vocals, Jules would play a flute (she’s so gentle). Dan (IT) would play the keyboard (Johnny one note). I’m usually the most noisy one so I’d play the drums and then set them on fire at the end.

What’s a quote or saying that you try to live by?

‘Leave everyone better than you find them’

Which of our brand’s values resonates most with you and why?

Helpfulness – I want everyone to feel that we’ve cared about them when they need to speak with us about something in their business.

If you could redesign our office to match any era or theme, what would you choose? Victorian times – just so I had to wear proper suits and hats.

If you could start a side business, what would it be?

Working with unrecognised/underfunded social groups to help them start an enterprise that allowed them to better themselves and their communities.

Can you recall a mistake you made that turned into a valuable learning experience?

Plenty! I’d say the valuable learning is to be ‘flexible in my behaviour’ so that I can adapt to other people’s situations and circumstances with more empathy.

What in your life are you most proud of?

My children. They are a constant reminder that I’ve got more to learn!
